Love Locks

Picture
Love locks. Doesn't it? Keeps you together and holds you tight. So what better way to declare your undying love than your names inscribed on a padlock, keeping the key close to your heart?
Picture
The idea's been around for a while now - possibly since WWI. Legend has it that Nada, a sweet local schoolmistress, and the love of her life, Serbian officer Relja would meet on the Most Ljubavi bridge in Vrnjacka Banja. Sadly, their ill-fated engagement was shattered when Relja went off with a woman from Corfu. Poor Nada never recovered from her broken heart, but local girls took to writing their names, together with their loved one, on padlocks and fastening them to the railings of the bridge to keep their love alive. The keys were thrown into the river below, lest anyone find them and unlock their love.

Picture
Less romantic is the damage being caused to the bridges and landmarks of Paris and other cities, where the locks have been removed in the interests of safety and conservation. So, let's get more imaginative!
Picture
Picture
Many beautiful visitor attractions are now embracing the idea, like Gretna Green and the Forth Road Bridge in Scotland, as well as more far flung locations, such as the inspirational 'Love Trees' at North Seoul Tower (top image) and the Vodootvodny canal, Moscow.
Picture
Will you admit to having left your padlock on the Pont du Seine Bridge or have you found somewhere less intrusive to make your love mark on the world?
Picture
The Captain and I found this buxom pirate lass at a cocktail bar in Caletta, Fuerteventura. Happy  Anniversary Cap'n and the G&Ts were to die for! We deserved it after 36 years.

This li'l lady, Lilly the Love Lock, is going on her travels to Corralejo, Fuerteventura this week. Keep a weather eye out, here and on Facebook, to see where she ends up.

If you've got the Love Lock Bug, we'd love to hear about it and see your pics. Contact Pam with your stories.

Treasure Hunting

Sea glass and pick it up, that's my motto, but this brown bottle has a good few decades to go before it qualifies as treasure. Years from now, some lucky people will find glowing amber nuggets and it's anyone's guess where they'll turn up.

Picture

We've had a great week combing the beaches and, even when the light is fading, there are always surprises to be found under the moon. Isn't this sea foam colour just gorgeous? It's perfectly frosted with lovely rounded edges. I almost missed the white piece sitting right beside it.

Picture

Toorie is the perfect partner for treasure  hunting. He just loves to dig. Loves it so much he never wants to stop. I almost missed this cute white pebble shape, before it got flung behind him with the stones. It got a good inspection to make sure it was up to scratch.

Picture

Perfection. Bliss. Utter joy at such wonderful finds.
John Legend summed it up... 'Love your curves and all your edges. Love your perfect imperfections'. Yup.

A small haul after a short trawl.

Picture

Blue! But we're not blue, we're dead chuffed with ourselves. Relaxed and ready for the next wedding.

*Don't be depressed that Winter's on it's way. Embrace it and chase the storms. That's the best time to find treasure.
*Be careful out there & stay safe!

First Dance

Happy Together?

Picture

Happy Anniversary Mish & Kenny and congratulations on still being Happy Together. Playing The Turtles' tune in the church was an inspired choice and helped create just the kind of chilled atmosphere  you were aiming for.

Driftwood wedding table plan

The Captain & I didn't have a wedding song, wasn't that kind of wedding. But 'our song' was The Tourists' version of 'I Only Wanna Be With You'. I'd have loved one of those choreographed efforts that are still so popular, but he's not much of a dancer ;O)

We did slightly better at our vow renewal / Silver Wedding and had a lively first dance to the Muse cover of 'Can't Take My Eyes Off You.' It's his fave karaoke song, but this time no singing. Phew :O)

Picture

But that wedding song, such a big deal, isn't it and so hard to choose? Ed Shearan's 'Thinking Out Loud' remains ever popular, with Etta James, 'At Last' coming very close.  Here's the list, according to Spotify.

They also supply a helpful list of what songs to ALTP (avoid like the plague), with The Police, 'Every Breath You Take' coming out top, probably due it's stalking nature. Yep, best ALTP!

Unless you're super fit or have massive skills, Gangnam Style is best avoided. A visit to A&E is not going to enhance anyone's Big Day.

But back to what's good. Here's TMW's Top Six.

* I'm Coming Home  Leon Bridges.  A true modern classic, just meltingly beautiful.
Best line: 'I'm coming home to your tender sweet loving. You're the only woman I want.'

* Wonderwall Ryan Adams. Yep, Ryan Adams. Give it a go, you'll love it. Noel loved it so much, he changed his live arrangement!
Best line: 'I don't believe that anybody feels the way I do about you now'.

* Sky Full of Stars  Coldplay. A real goosebump giver.
Best line: 'Cause you're a sky full of stars, I'm gonna give you my heart'.

* Candy   Paolo Nutini.  A little bit edgy, but perfect.
Best line: 'I'll bathe your skin, I'll even wash your clothes'.  Who could say no?

* Can't Take My Eyes Off You  Muse. Starts gently, then gets a bit wild. Not for everyone, but the Frankie Valli original is gorgeous.
Best line: 'The sight of you leaves me weak, there are no words left to speak'.

* Truly Madly Deeply  Savage Garden. Well, I couldn't not ;O)
Best line: 'I'll be your dream, I'll be your wish, I'll be your fantasy. I'll be your hope, I'll be your love, be everything that you need'.  What more could anyone ask for?

Picture

So, make the most of your first dance. It's a forever thing.

Happy Ever After,
Pam x
